How cool!

An old buddy of mine from high school just found me on Facebook. Turns out he's a big time Jazz musician now. (Cool, huh?) His name is Dwayne Dolphin. If you get the chance, check out samples of his stuff on Amazon.com (or itunes).

PLAYLISTS FOR LAZY PEOPLE

So, I've been playing with this program called Soundflavor dj for a couple of days now. It's a (free) playlist generator that works with iTunes. Picked it up after purchasing the now free (grumble) muffin music finder from Magix and playing with the built-in playlist generator in winamp (I crashed it the second time I used it). Both excellent generators but neither can access the iTunes store stuff (For all of you fans of The Filter, I'm still waiting for them to grant me access to the site to download the program; the day I registered there was a glitch in their email system; received an email from them about the problem a couple weeks ago but nothing since).

I have my own smart playlists set up but sometimes they're not exactly what I'm looking for. Soundflavor does a fairly good job of finding similar tracks in my library. It also recommends songs for download (some for purchase, some free) from their website (with free registration). You can also upload playlists to their website to share with others or post to your website/blog.

I like Soundflavor… mostly. It only id'd about 3100 of the 3600 songs in my library. I can make it hang if I switch songs more than twice and although it works from within iTunes it doesn't allow use of iTunes' crossfade featureL. Still, it's better than hunting.

$79.95, WOTTA DEAL

I was just looking to upgrade Outlook so I could sync info with my phone (no likey 2000). Just for grins checked the AAFES website figuring I could save a couple bucks on the sales tax and shipping (if I felt lazy). Must have stared at the page for half an hour when I saw the price. Pretty cool so far (writing and publishing this from Word, sans pic; and yes, I know I'm late to the party). Sometimes being retired is kewl.

P.S. the spell cheker hats me.

QUOTE OF THE DAY…

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a shp, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

Fun with Google!

The Real Time Contextual Art Layout Generator is a free program that pulls pictures from Google keyword searches and mixes them together to create artwork. You can keep mixing images until you find one you like then save it for whatever you like. This is a sample of what you get for "San Antonio". Posted by Picasa

QUOTE OF THE DAY

I'm always amazed to hear of air crash victims so badly mutilated that they have to be identified by their dental records. What I can't understand is, if they don't know who you are, how do they know who your dentist is?

CHRISTMAS IS OVER

Dean and I are almost done with the Swiss Colony 'basket-o-meat-and-cheeses' we got from his mom for Christmas. But we still have to figure out what to do with all the dried fruit.

SQUEZE

A coworker went to India for Christmas and came back with presents for the office. She gave me this really cool shirt. Too bad it's too small.

SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA AT THE TIME...

Well, the great Charlie's "Minor Experiment" is over. Seems keeping them from drinking in the club was harder than they anticipated. Not that you could blame 'em... If I had to pay ten bucks to get into a club I'll be damned if I'm gonna sip soda.
